How to arrange grocery delivery for a group holiday

A grocery delivery can replace the traditional first-night supermarket raid — provided the van does not arrive before the keys do. Here is how to get one useful order to a holiday rental without ten people editing the same basket into chaos.

Confirm the address before filling the basket

Ask the host for the exact delivery address, postcode, access instructions and a phone number the driver can reach. Check that the retailer covers it before planning every dinner around its stock. Rural houses may have a narrow delivery window or require collection from a nearby store.

Build the order from meals, not requests

1. Count who is present for each breakfast, lunch and dinner.
2. Choose the meals and record allergies before adding ingredients.
3. Combine duplicate ingredients, then add drinks, snacks and household basics.
4. Let one person place the final order; everyone else reviews the list before the cutoff.

Book a slot somebody can actually receive

Aim for 60–90 minutes after the group with the keys expects to arrive, not after the fastest driver hopes to arrive. Put a first-night meal and breakfast in one car as insurance.
